Better breath, stronger health. Why We Focus On Pet Dental Health

Without routine dental care, plaque and tartar can build up on your pet’s teeth, leading to painful infections, tooth loss, and bacteria entering the bloodstream. This can impact not just their mouth, but their entire body.

Our veterinarians prioritize proactive dental care to help your pet stay healthier, longer. If your pet shows any of the following signs, it may be time for a dental evaluation:

  • Bad breath
  • Broken or loose teeth
  • Excessive drooling or difficulty chewing
  • Swelling around the mouth or eyes
  • Bleeding from the gums
  • Decreased appetite or unexplained weight loss

More than just a polish What’s Included in a Professional Pet Teeth Cleaning?

A full dental cleaning, also known as a prophylaxis, goes far beyond what you can see on the surface. Our skilled team follows AAHA guidelines to ensure thorough, safe, and stress-free care, using general anesthesia to allow for a complete oral assessment and treatment.

Our pet dental services include:

  • Pre-anesthetic evaluation and monitoring
  • Safe, professionally administered anesthesia
  • Full-mouth digital dental X-rays
  • Thorough oral exam by the veterinarian
  • Ultrasonic scaling above and below the gumline
  • Probing for hidden pathology (such as pockets or root exposure)
  • Tooth extractions, if needed
  • Enamel polishing to smooth surfaces and prevent plaque buildup
  • A customized at-home dental care plan for prevention

Why We Don't Offer Anesthesia-Free Dentistry

While anesthesia-free cleanings may seem appealing, they only address surface-level plaque and do not allow for proper evaluation or treatment of gum disease, tooth-root infections, or other hidden issues.

Since 2013, AAHA has required that all dental procedures be performed under general anesthesia with intubation. As an AAHA-accredited hospital, we proudly uphold this standard to ensure your pet receives the safest, most effective care possible.

Learn more about why we do not offer anesthesia-free cleanings from the American Veterinary Dental College.

At-Home Dental Care for Dogs and Cats

While professional teeth cleanings are essential, what you do at home matters just as much. We encourage all pet parents to take an active role in their pet’s dental health through regular brushing and dental-friendly products.

Not sure where to start? Our team is happy to show you how to brush your pet’s teeth and recommend products like toothbrushes, dental chews, and water additives that support oral health.
